Creating a Life that Feels Authentic: Flaminia Buda's Message to Female Entrepreneurs!

Female entrepreneur Flaminia Buda has an inspiring message to share with fellow female entrepreneurs: create a life that feels authentic. As a speaker, advocate, and champion of location-independence, Flaminia Buda has dedicated herself to helping soulful women entrepreneurs feel nourished creatively, spiritually and collectively in womanhood. Through her work, she encourages female entrepreneurs to recognise their unique strengths and use them to make positive changes in their lives and businesses. In this blog post, we'll explore how Flaminia Buda's message can help female entrepreneurs create a life that feels true to them.

1: Flaminia, Tell us about your journey as an expat… What inspired you to live the expat life? Where

have you lived/traveled/worked? Are you single/married/in a relationship? Where are you from

originally?

In the beautiful city of Rome, Italy, I began my life's journey, surrounded by the rich history and

cultural heritage that has shaped me. Raised by American-Italian parents, I grew up with a deep

appreciation for the fusion of these two captivating worlds. For the first 18 years of my life, Rome

was my home. In 2016, a profound desire to explore the vast wonders of our world awakened within

me. Inspired by the possibility of experiencing different cultures while sustaining an online income, I

embraced a location-independent lifestyle. Among the myriad destinations I've had the privilege to visit, two countries hold a special place in my heart. The first is Colombia, where I immersed myself in the vibrant tapestry of Latin American life. From the majestic allure of Cartagena's historic walled city to the pulsating energy of Medellin's salsa-filled nights, Colombia welcomed me with open arms. The warmth of its people and the richness of its culture left an indelible mark on my soul. Then, I found myself captivated by the enchanting allure of Indonesia. Nestled amidst tropical landscapes, Bali cast a spell on me with its serene beauty and spiritual essence. The island's lush greenery, sacred temples, and a sense of tranquility awakened a profound sense of peace within me. Bali became a sanctuary where I could reflect, rejuvenate, and discover profound connections with both nature and myself. Throughout my nomadic journey, I embraced the solitude of solo travel, relishing the freedom to chart my own course. However, there were moments when the longing for deeper connections

tugged at my heartstrings. Fate smiled upon me, introducing me to a kindred spirit—a fellow nomad

and entrepreneur who shared my passion for adventure. Together, we embarked on a path of companionship, supporting and inspiring each other as we travel the world.

This expat entrepreneurial life I have chosen continues to unfold before me, like an unfinished novel

waiting to be written. With each new destination, I delve deeper into the tapestry of humanity,

weaving my experiences and insights into the fabric of my being. Rome will forever hold my roots,

but the world has become my expansive canvas, inviting me to explore, connect, and grow as an

individual.

2: You are the founder of ‘Nomad Haven’ - Amazing! Tell us more..

In my search for a community that seamlessly blended the realities of business and spirituality, I

found myself in a constant challenge. Existing communities were either too focused on the business

side, leaving me trapped in a whirlwind of comparison and overthinking, or they delved into the

spiritual realms, which sometimes felt too esoteric for my taste, but for sure a favourite of mine. I

yearned for a space that harmoniously integrated the stimulating aspects of entrepreneurship with

the desire to connect with my divine self on a deeper level.

Frustrated by the lack of such a community, I followed the path that many entrepreneurs tread—I

decided to create it myself. Thus, in September 2022, we launched 'Nomad Haven'—a haven for

individuals seeking to embrace their feminine qualities in leadership supported by their masculine

qualities while finding support from other women that wish to do the same. Our doors opened wide,

and to our delight, we were greeted by a stream of incredible members, all eager to weave their

feminine power into the fabric of their professional lives. Society often applauds us for our achievements and productivity, leaving little room for us to understand the importance of attuning to our bodies and ensuring their well-being throughout the journey. 'Nomad Haven' became a sanctuary where we not only celebrated our accomplishments but also learned the invaluable art of listening to our bodies, honouring their needs, and nurturing them in the process.

In this vibrant community, we share tools, insights, and experiences that empower each member to

embrace their unique blend of spirituality and business acumen. Together, we explore the delicate

dance between ambition and intuition, discovering the transformative power of merging the two.

'Nomad Haven' has become a space where our journeys intertwine, and as we navigate the ever-

evolving landscape of entrepreneurship, we find solace in the connection, understanding, and

support that only a community like ours can provide.

At 'Nomad Haven', we are not simply rewriting the script of business; we are crafting a new narrative

that embraces holistic well-being, authenticity, and the beautiful dance between the spiritual and the

practical. Here, we celebrate the achievements of our members while nurturing their souls,

reminding each other that true success lies not only in what we accomplish but also in how we

honor and care for ourselves along the way.

3: You talk a lot about the moon and intention setting and the links with female cycles and

energies.. Can you expand on this and give us more insight?

As women, we possess a deep intuitive connection to the Moon's energy and its different phases. At 'Nomad Haven', we understand the significance of harnessing this lunar influence for our businesses.

That's why we've brought in our in-house Astrologer, Candice Young, to guide us through monthly

sessions, providing insights into the current energetic landscape and how we can channel it into our

work. Additionally, we tackle the often overlooked topic of integrating our menstrual cycles into our

business lives. Society has left us uninformed and unsupported in this regard. However, at 'Nomad

Haven', we prioritise self-care and self-discovery, helping our members understand the importance of

listening to their bodies during their cycles. We believe that by honouring ourselves and finding the

right balance, we can create successful work lives while taking care of our well-being. Join us as we

explore this transformative journey of self-love and find the harmony between personal and

professional fulfilment.

4: What advice do you have for fellow women who are entrepreneurial and living the digital nomad

lifestyle but may have fallen out of alignment? Might be feeling lonely & lost?

The advice that I would give is that what they are navigating through is absolutely normal and can

happen to anyone. Also, congratulating them that they acknowledged this and are self aware. It’s

important to be patient with ourselves, practice self-compassion, and remember that setbacks are

opportunities for growth. With time, reflections and proactive steps you can rediscover your path and

regain your sense of purpose and fulfilment.

Some pieces of advice that may help you:

- Reflect on your purpose: Take some time to reflect on why you embarked on the

entrepreneurial and digital nomad path in the first place. Reconnect with your passion and

the core values that drive you. Understanding your purpose can provide clarity and

motivation to realign yourself with your goals.

- Seek a supportive community: Loneliness is a common challenge for digital nomads, but

remember that you're not alone in feeling this way. Look for communities, both online and

offline, that bring together like-minded individuals. Engage with fellow entrepreneurs, digital

nomads, and women who share similar interests and experiences. This can provide a sense

of belonging, support, and the opportunity to learn from others. This is why we created

'Nomad Haven'.

- Prioritise self-care: When you're feeling lost or out of alignment, it's crucial to prioritise self-

care. Make sure you're taking care of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Establish a routine that includes regular exercise, healthy eating, and adequate sleep.

Practice mindfulness and meditation to reduce stress and improve mental clarity. Taking

care of yourself will help you regain focus and find balance.

5: You use the word ‘Soulful’ a lot when describing the entrepreneurs in your community… What

does it mean? How do you define your tribe?

The word “soulful” for us is a playful way to express that our members in the community are self

aware and have a desire to connect with the Divine, Universe, God, Source, Creator, whatever name

you like to associate with that. We are at all different stages of our spiritual journey but we’re eager

to share our enlightenment with each other and our transformations.

The word 'soulful' holds a special place in our community at 'Nomad Haven', as it beautifully

encapsulates the essence of our sacred space. When we refer to our members as 'soulful' we are

playfully acknowledging their deep self-awareness and their yearning to forge a connection with the

divine, whether it be the Universe, God, Source, or any other name that resonates with them

personally. It goes beyond religious or spiritual labels; it is about embracing a sense of higher

purpose and exploring the limitless potential within. Within our diverse group, we find individuals at

various stages of their spiritual journeys, each eager to share their enlightenment and transformative

experiences with one another. Together, we create a sacred space where authenticity, growth, and

interconnectedness thrive, fostering a community of soulful entrepreneurs who inspire and support

one another along the path of self-discovery.

6: Where have you lived and worked that you fell in love with or felt spiritually connected to?

Throughout my traveling journey, I have come to realise that each place I have embraced has

awakened different facets of my being. One such place was Colombia, where I embarked on my solo

travel adventure and spent four months. It was there that I discovered the profound power of

unconditional self-love. Wrestling with minor skin issues caused by transitioning water sources and

varying climates, I learned that true love extends far beyond physical appearances. As I embraced

the truth that I am loved unconditionally, my skin began to heal and radiate with newfound health.

Another destination that holds a special place in my journey is Bali, Indonesia. It was in this

enchanting land that I experienced numerous spiritual awakenings. Immersed in Bali's vibrant

spiritual community, I discovered the incredible potential for growth and transformation that arises

when we connect with others. I delved into profound lessons on love, attachment styles in

relationships, triggers, transparent communication, and the importance of embracing and honouring

my emotions. Bali taught me that the path of growth is not solely a solitary one; it flourishes when

shared and explored in the company of like-minded souls.

As I reflect on my spiritual voyage, I am reminded of the invaluable lessons learned at each stage

and in each place. It is through these encounters and experiences that I have expanded my

understanding of myself, others, and the intricate tapestry of life. Every step, every journey, and every

destination has left an indelible mark on my soul, guiding me closer to my authentic self and

illuminating the limitless possibilities that lie within. May we all find the courage to embrace the

transformative power of our travels and allow them to shape us into the soulful beings we are

destined to become.

7:You live in Bali now :) YOU are living the digital nomad dream! Tell us about your lifestyle in Bali?

Do you use co - working spaces? What was it like living with other expats and integrating into the

Bali culture?

Welcome to my Bali lifestyle, where time slows down compared to the hustle and bustle of my home

country in Europe. Here in Bali, I have embraced a leisurely pace while relishing the joy of co-working from charming cafes, constantly on the lookout for new hidden gems that inspire both my taste buds and my work. Bali holds a special place in my heart, and on every visit, I make it a priority to connect with the local community. By learning basic Indonesian, I bridge the communication gap and immerse myself in the rich cultural tapestry of the island. Attending events organised by Nomads

Giving Back has been a rewarding experience, allowing me to give back and contribute to the

community that has welcomed me with open arms. But Bali isn't just a place for external exploration; it's a sanctuary for nourishing my spiritual side. This island offers a vibrant spiritual scene that is hard to find elsewhere. I eagerly participate in breath work sessions, practicing yin yoga, joining authentic relating circles, immersing myself in sharing in women's circles, and surrendering to the liberating rhythms of ecstatic dance. Bali provides a haven for these transformative experiences, allowing me to dive deep into my spiritual journey and discover new dimensions of self-expression and growth. In tune with the ebb and flow of my feminine energy, I approach each day with intentionality. Working on the European timezone, I have the luxury of dedicating half of my day to focused, uninterrupted work. It's during these quiet hours that I immerse myself in the creative aspects of my business, cherishing the freedom to bring my ideas to life without the distraction of constant calls and meetings. Bali, with its slower pace, vibrant spirituality, and the opportunity to connect with both the local community and fellow nomads, has become my sanctuary of inspiration and personal growth. It is a place where I can harmonise my work and passion, embracing the beauty of both creation and self- discovery. As I embark on this journey of living and working in Bali, I invite you to join me in embracing a lifestyle that nurtures the soul, sparks creativity, and allows us to thrive in the magical embrace of this island paradise.

8: What challenges have you faced living the expat entrepreneurial life as a woman?

Stepping out of my comfort zone was the initial hurdle I faced as a nomadic and entrepreneurial woman. Embracing a lifestyle that constantly puts me in new situations, both in my business and daily life, requires continuous courage and adaptability. One significant challenge that women entrepreneurs may encounter is gender bias. Stereotypes, cultural expectations, and discriminatory practices can hinder their access to funding, business opportunities, networking, and recognition. Overcoming these biases and breaking through the glass ceiling can be a formidable task. Cultural barriers add another layer of complexity. Each culture has its own set of norms and expectations regarding gender roles, impacting how women are perceived and treated in the business world. Navigating and adapting to these cultural differences can be particularly challenging, especially in societies where women's participation in entrepreneurship is not widely encouraged or supported. Finding a work-life balance is an ongoing struggle for many women, exacerbated by the expat lifestyle. Juggling personal and professional responsibilities becomes even more demanding when living far away from the familiar support network of friends and family. Women with caregiving or familial obligations may feel the weight of these responsibilities more acutely. Personal safety and security concerns also come to the forefront when living as an expat entrepreneur in an unfamiliar country. Women, in particular, may face additional risks or anxieties related to their well- being and personal security. Taking extra precautions and being vigilant become crucial aspects of navigating life in an unfamiliar environment.

Despite these challenges, it's important to recognise that many women thrive in the expat entrepreneurial life, overcoming obstacles with resilience, determination, and the support of their communities. They pave the way for future generations of women to pursue their dreams and make a lasting impact in the global entrepreneurial landscape.

9: With all the demands of running a business, how do you find time for authenticity, freedom,

creativity, altruism and depth?

When you embark on creating a business that reflects your true essence, it becomes a tapestry

interwoven with your core values. For me, authenticity, freedom, creativity, altruism, and depth are

the guiding principles that shape my entrepreneurial journey on a daily basis. Every day, I consciously

ask myself, "How can I be my truest self today?" This constant self-inquiry allows me to step into

greater authenticity, bringing my genuine self to the forefront. At 'Nomad Haven', we emphasise the

importance of embodying these values, creating a harmonious resonance within our community.

Freedom is a value we hold dear and discover through our nomadic adventures. As we explore the

world, we create boundaries in our businesses that honor our need for personal nourishment. Our

work becomes a manifestation of freedom, allowing us to embrace a lifestyle that aligns with our

aspirations and desires. Creativity permeates every aspect of our entrepreneurial journey. We strive to redefine the notion of ' work' and approach it as a canvas for creative expression. Our businesses become platforms for innovation, where we can infuse our unique perspectives and passions.

Altruism is another cornerstone of our community. We are dedicated to giving back, as demonstrated through our initiatives and commitment to donating a portion of our profits to a Children's Home Orphanage in Bali, Indonesia. By sharing our abundance, we create a ripple effect of

positive change and contribute to the well-being of those in need. Finally, depth is a value that resonates profoundly within our community. We delve into spiritual transformations and share our journeys in intimate settings like our share and connect circles. By creating a space where authenticity and vulnerability are cherished, we cultivate an environment that fosters growth, connection, and a profound sense of presence. As we come together as a community, our businesses become not just a means of financial success, but a reflection of our values and a conduit for personal and collective growth. By weaving authenticity, freedom, creativity, altruism, and depth into the fabric of our entrepreneurial pursuits, we create a vibrant tapestry that celebrates our unique journeys and supports us in manifesting our highest visions.

10: What do you do for fun? How do you cultivate a work/life balance?

Finding a healthy work/life balance is crucial for entrepreneurs, and it's something we prioritise at 'Nomad Haven'. When it comes to having fun and cultivating a sense of balance, I engage in activities

that bring me joy and inspiration. One of my favourite pastimes is diving into the pages of inspirational books and immersing myself in their wisdom. Reading not only provides me with

valuable insights but also serves as a form of relaxation and mental rejuvenation. To add more movement and vitality to my life, I embrace activities like ecstatic dance and attend dance classes. The freedom of expression and the rhythmic beats uplift my spirit and allow me to connect with myself and others on a deeper level. Additionally, spending quality time with soul friends brings me immense joy. Engaging in meaningful conversations, sharing laughter, and creating memories together nourish my soul and add a sense of fulfilment to my life. When it comes to leisure, I love indulging in spontaneous adventures during weekends. Whether it's trying out a new activity like peddle, embarking on exhilarating outdoor experiences like rafting or hiking, or simply immersing myself in the beauty of nature by jumping into a refreshing waterfall, I find that these experiences invigorate my spirit and bring a sense of wonder and excitement. Exploring new destinations is another way I cultivate a work/life balance. When I visit a place I've never been to before, I make it a point to immerse myself in the local culture, discover hidden gems, and connect with the essence of the town. These explorations not only provide a break from work but also offer a chance for personal growth and expanding my horizons. Ultimately, cultivating a work/life balance is about finding activities that bring joy, inspire growth, and allow for rejuvenation. By incorporating these elements into our lives, we create a harmonious synergy between work and play, fostering overall well-being and fulfilment. At 'Nomad Haven', we encourage our members to find their own unique ways of striking a balance and prioritise self-care as an essential component of their entrepreneurial journey.
